Come take in a skyline river sunset on the 86 Kent shoreline esplanade while absorbing great musical vibes from multiple genres. \nThe Jazz Foundation of America presents Gerry Eastman Quintet. \nGerry Eastman is a Brooklyn-based guitarist\, bassist\, composer\, and entrepreneur who has worked with greats like Sarah Vaughan\, Count Basie\, Etta James\, and the Isley Brothers. His distinctive avant-garde jazz\, funk\, and soul stylings attract fellow musicians and the jazz community to his live appearances\, especially at the Williamsburg Music Center\, which he founded 42 years ago. Marine biologists from the Coastal Classroom will lead the community in workshops to discover and explore marine life at low tide on the Bushwick Inlet Park jetty. \nActivities will include a seining demonstration and organism identification\, marine food chains discussions\, water quality testing and talk about the human impacts to aquatic ecosystems in NYC. \nThe biologists will seine the shoreline for marine life. Participants 16 and older can assist them but must sign a waiver. \nEnter the park at 86 Kent Ave near N 9th Street and then find us near the riverfront. \nRegistration required.

Soon after earning a degree in music education at Morgan State University\, he was offered the drum chair in Pockets\, a major funk group produced by Verdine and Maurice White from Earth\, Wind & Fire. DESCRIPTION:Join Friends of Bushwick Inlet Park for an invasive species removal project from 10 AM to 1 PM for the 13th Annual Riverkeeper Sweep. The park is located in Williamsburg/Greenpoint section of North Brooklyn. This is a rain or shine event. \nVolunteers will meet at the NYC Parks Building at 86 Kent Ave\, Brooklyn\, NY 11249 (btwn N9th + N10th Streets). Drivers: street parking available. Public transit: Take the L to Bedford and then B32 bus. \nRegistration is required. \nWe recommend all Sweep volunteers to bring a hat\, sunscreen\, a full reusable water bottle\, insect repellent\, work gloves and hand sanitizer. \nThis site is suitable for elementary-aged children with adult supervision. \n*IMPORTANT! To ensure the safety of volunteers\, Sweep Site Leaders\, professional staff\, and our communities\, we ask that volunteers adhere to the following guidelines: \n\nVolunteers are required to pre-register for Sweep.\nVolunteers should not participate if they have ANY signs of illness or if they have potentially been exposed to COVID-19.\n\nOver the last 12 years\, Sweep leaders have completed 1\,199 service projects\, bringing together thousands of volunteers from NYC to the Adirondacks to clean up 355 tons of debris\, and plant or maintain 7\,130 native plants. DESCRIPTION:Join Friends of Bushwick Inlet Park for an afternoon of painting & cut paper collaging with local gardener\, artist and card designer Llubav. \nLlubav will share her tips and techniques to demonstrate how she creates her beautiful and whimsical designs. We will have a mixture of colorful and textured raw materials\, which we will then paint\, draw\, cut and make shapes which will be glued to a larger sheet of paper or cardstock to create a unique and playful collage. \nRequired registration. \nFree! \nWe will have supplies on hand to create a floral mother’s day card or a design of your choosing – in time to celebrate Spring or Mother’s Day! \nSuggested Supplies: \n\nPaper or Tissue Paper you might want to use\nScissors (comfortable size to cut small shapes)\nBig and medium sized brushes\nElmers liquid glue\, paste or glue stick\nColored Paints (Acrylic\, Guache\, Tempera\, Watercolor)\n\nNo experience necessary. SUMMARY:Celestial Watercolors: Painting the Night Sky
DESCRIPTION:Please join us at the Bushwick Inlet Park Community Center for an afternoon of painting with watercolors. \n“Environmental Science + Art” FBIP 2024 Saturday class series: \nWe will consider the upcoming eclipse\, how light from urban buildings affects birds and other animals\, the value of a park as a bird safe haven and the effects of satellites circling the planet. \nAs the days start to get longer\, we still have plenty of opportunities to view the night sky which has fascinated people since the beginning of time. The ancients saw mythological beasts\, gods\, and goddesses; mariners once navigated using the constellations as their guide; and today we continue to explore and understand further and further into space and our expanding impact. \nThere’ll be a short astronomy presentation to inform and inspire you for a fun afternoon of celestial watercolor painting. \nWe will have some guidance as to how to depict the night sky with stars\, galaxies and nebulae. \nSkills we’ll cover are wet in wet and wet on dry watercolor\, color layering\, and other watercolor basics. Beginners to advanced welcome. \nFriends of Bushwick Inlet Park will provide art supplies\, but feel free to bring your own (if you have!) for this guided art project for beginners and artists of all levels. Materials provided will include paper\, watercolors\, colored pencils\, and other basic drawing supplies. \nIf you’d like to bring your own\, we recommend: \n\nmultimedia or watercolor paper\nwatercolor paints\npencil\, eraser\, ruler\, tape (for masking edges)\ncolored pencils\, markers\, or pens\n\nNo experience necessary. \nInstructor Monica Schroeder is a professional scientific illustrator. Her work has appeared in Scientific American\, countless textbooks\, natural history museum exhibitions\, and on the TV Show Jeopardy. \nShe has been an adult art instructor since 2018. monbertkayak@gmail.com \n* Registration required. \n* Please register only if you plan to actually attend.
