Marine biologists from the Coastal Classroom will lead the community in workshops to discover and explore marine life at low tide on the Bushwick Inlet Park jetty. \nActivities will include a seining demonstration and organism identification\, marine food chains discussions\, water quality testing and talk about the human impacts to aquatic ecosystems in NYC. \nThe biologists will seine the shoreline for marine life. Participants 16 and older can assist them but must sign a waiver. \nEnter the park at 86 Kent Ave near N 9th Street and then find us near the riverfront. \nRegistration required.

Soon after earning a degree in music education at Morgan State University\, he was offered the drum chair in Pockets\, a major funk group produced by Verdine and Maurice White from Earth\, Wind & Fire. After three albums for Columbia with this group\, Gray went on to freelance with a long list of musical greats including Chuck Berry\, Gary Bartz\, Earth\, Wind & Fire\, Pharoah Sanders\, Abdullah Ibrahim\, Onaje Allan Gumbs and most recently\, the Sun Ra Arkestra. \nFriends of Bushwick Inlet Park is sponsored\, in part\, by the Greater New York Arts Development Fund of the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs\, administered by Brooklyn Arts Council. \nA big thanks goes out this year’s sponsors & supporters: \n \n\n\n

The park is located in Williamsburg/Greenpoint section of North Brooklyn. This is a rain or shine event. \nVolunteers will meet at the NYC Parks Building at 86 Kent Ave\, Brooklyn\, NY 11249 (btwn N9th + N10th Streets). Drivers: street parking available. Public transit: Take the L to Bedford and then B32 bus. \nRegistration is required. \nWe recommend all Sweep volunteers to bring a hat\, sunscreen\, a full reusable water bottle\, insect repellent\, work gloves and hand sanitizer. \nThis site is suitable for elementary-aged children with adult supervision. \n*IMPORTANT! To ensure the safety of volunteers\, Sweep Site Leaders\, professional staff\, and our communities\, we ask that volunteers adhere to the following guidelines: \n\nVolunteers are required to pre-register for Sweep.\nVolunteers should not participate if they have ANY signs of illness or if they have potentially been exposed to COVID-19.\n\nOver the last 12 years\, Sweep leaders have completed 1\,199 service projects\, bringing together thousands of volunteers from NYC to the Adirondacks to clean up 355 tons of debris\, and plant or maintain 7\,130 native plants. The ancients saw mythological beasts\, gods\, and goddesses; mariners once navigated using the constellations as their guide; and today we continue to explore and understand further and further into space and our expanding impact. \nThere’ll be a short astronomy presentation to inform and inspire you for a fun afternoon of celestial watercolor painting. \nWe will have some guidance as to how to depict the night sky with stars\, galaxies and nebulae. \nSkills we’ll cover are wet in wet and wet on dry watercolor\, color layering\, and other watercolor basics. Beginners to advanced welcome. \nFriends of Bushwick Inlet Park will provide art supplies\, but feel free to bring your own (if you have!) for this guided art project for beginners and artists of all levels. This band born as a percussion ensemble on May 28\, 2017\, under the initiative of Willie Quintana and Daniel Prim. In the name of safety we are calling off the event.* \n  \nPlease join Friends of Bushwick Inlet Park and our partners from the North Brooklyn Community Boathouse\, Billion Oyster Project\, and New York Harbor School for our next survey of our oyster restoration project in Bushwick Inlet. \nWe will be meeting at the East River waterfront *in* Bushwick Inlet Park. (Enter at 86 Kent Ave. [soccer field] and walk all the way back to the water.) Bring water\, a hat\, and sunscreen; wear old clothes and plan to get a little dirty! \nSpaces are limited and registration is required.

We welcome you to take part in the 12th Annual Riverkeeper Sweep\, our annual day of service for the Hudson River and its tributaries. \nJoin Friends of Bushwick Inlet Park and Riverkeeper for a park clean-up at Bushwick Inlet Park \nVolunteers will meet at Bushwick Inlet Park\, 86 Kent Ave\, Brooklyn NY\, at the Bushwick Inlet Park Building. There is street parking but it is easier to arrive by bike\, public transit or ferry! \nRegistration is required. \nWe ask all Sweep volunteers to wear sturdy shoes or boots\, clothing that they can get dirty\, and to bring a hat\, sunscreen\, a full reusable water bottle\, and a face mask\, work gloves and hand sanitizer. \nThis site is not suitable for elementary-aged children. \nQuestions?
