DESCRIPTION:Please join Friends of Bushwick Inlet Park and our partners from the North Brooklyn Boat Club\, Greenpoint Monitor Museum\, Billion Oyster Project\, and New York Harbor School for the summer monitoring session of our oyster restoration project in Bushwick Inlet. We will pull the oyster cages from the water; count\, weigh\, and measure them; and observe all the creatures that live on and around our BIP bivalves. (Preview – there are A LOT of creatures  😉 ) This is a super fun and educational event for citizen and community scientists of all ages\, and we hope you will join us. DESCRIPTION:  \nJoin Friends of Bushwick Inlet Park and Riverkeeper for a planting and cleanup project at Bushwick Inlet Park on Saturday\, May 4\, 2019 for the 8th Annual Riverkeeper Sweep\, a day of service for the Hudson River. \nWe will be collecting and analyzing debris as well as planting native sustainable plant species to enhance wildlife and entice the senses. Landscape Architect Emily Bauer will culminate the teaching\, input & design process she has led by guiding us through physical planting in the beds near the shoreline. \nVolunteers will meet at the Bushwick Inlet Park Community Building\,(North 9th Street & Kent Avenue\, Brooklyn\, NY 11211)\, where street parking will be available. We ask all Sweep volunteers to wear sturdy shoes or boots\, clothing that they can get dirty\, and to bring work gloves\, a hat\, sunscreen\, a reusable water bottle and snacks. This site is suitable for elementary-aged children with proper adult supervision. \nQuestions? Although those times may be passed\, the ecology of that time helps us understand what the future could be. SUMMARY:Drawing Water III: Making Historic Streams Visible
DESCRIPTION:Though our cities may appear as solid concrete and brick & glass\, under the thin veneer of streets and sidewalks flows an entire system of water that has traversed this landscape for thousands of years. Many have attempted to tame these waters and put them underground. \nBut water cannot always be stopped by brick culverts and iron pipes; many original streams still flow under the ground. Sometimes these historic streams follow the human-made course designed to contain them\, and sometimes these creeks “go wild\,” finding their own passage beneath the urban fabric. \nStacy Levy is an internationally known artist who specializes in creating artful\, site-specific interventions and engagements with water ecology. Stacy will lead an interactive\, family workshop at 10am at North 15th Street in Greenpoint\, where we will map the historic Bushwick Inlet directly onto the hardscape using chalk paint: a mixture of chalk powder and water. In envisioning Bushwick Inlet\, we will get a sense that a stream is flowing! \nRegister for free now. \nRain date October 21 at 10am. \nPartners for this event are NYCH2O\, North Brooklyn Boat Club and Councilmember Stephen Levin. Additionally\, this event received support from a grant awarded by the Greenpoint Community Environmental Fund.

DESCRIPTION:Join us for the Hip to Hip Theatre Group production\, for all ages*\, of Shakespeare’s King Lear! \nHip to Hip is dedicated to stimulating and developing interest in the theatre arts in underserved communities by providing free\, family-friendly\, professional productions of popular classics\, and free theatre workshops for children\, in public spaces. \nAll performances are free to the public and will feature an interactive kids workshop 30 minutes before showtime. Kids & the Classics is designed for ages 4 to 12 and gives children a chance to interact with the text by previewing the characters\, situations\, and creating links between the text and their own lives through theatre games and reading of text. \n* Kids & the Classics\, interactive workshops begin at 7pm. The play begins at 7:30pm. \nAudience members are encouraged to bring a blanket or low chair\, picnic fare and enjoy a Shakespeare play in the open air. No tickets are necessary. Performances run 95 minutes. \nKing Lear\nThe aging King Lear decides to divide his kingdom among his three daughters based on their love for him. Misunderstanding his youngest daughter’s refusal to flatter him\, he disowns her in favor of her ruthless\, manipulative sisters…who promptly strip him of power\, wealth\, and sanity. Shakespeare’s spectacular tragedy pits good against evil as the exiled princess returns to claim the throne.
