DESCRIPTION:Bushwick Inlet Park Cleanup and Invasive Species Removal\nJoin Friends of Bushwick Inlet Park and Riverkeeper for a stewardship project at Bushwick Inlet Park from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm for the 15th Annual Riverkeeper Sweep. This is a rain or shine event. \nSign up required. \nVolunteers will meet at Bushwick Inlet Park\, 86 Kent Avenue\, Brooklyn\, NY\, 11249\, specifically at N 9th Street\, down by the water on the other side of the soccer field. \nWe recommend all Sweep volunteers to bring a hat\, sunscreen\, a full reusable water bottle\, insect repellent\, work gloves and hand sanitizer. \nThis site is suitable for elementary-aged children with adult supervision. \nQuestions? To ensure the safety of volunteers\, Sweep Site Leaders\, professional staff\, and our communities\, we ask that volunteers adhere to the following guidelines: \n\nVolunteers are required to pre-register for Sweep.\nVolunteers should not participate if they have ANY signs of illness.\n\nOver the last 14 years\, Sweep leaders have completed 1\,463 projects\, bringing together thousands of volunteers from NYC to the Adirondacks to clean up 404 tons of debris\, and plant and maintain 11\,425 native trees\, shrubs\, and flowers. Then participants will engage in a hands-on workshop to build a small planter which they will take home and tend and watch the process of the mycelium growth first hand. \nPart I\nSaturday\, February 7\n1:00 PM – 3:00 PM\n86 Kent Ave\nKings County\, New York\n*Required registration (free) \n​In the first session\, participants will be introduced to the powerful world of mycelium and collaborate to fabricate biodegradable planters using organic waste and living fungi. Expect experimentation\, conversation\, and a tactile encounter with growth in real time. \n​The second session (April 4\, 2026) brings these forms to life. Participants will plant native species\, grounding material play in ecological stewardship and local restoration efforts at Bushwick Inlet Park. \n​No prior experience needed—just curiosity and a willingness to learn together. DESCRIPTION:*Make up date \nFor the 5th summer FBIP brings music to the beautiful waterfront in Bushwick Inlet Park with our Summer Music in BIP 2025 series. Come take in a skyline river sunset on the 86 Kent shoreline esplanade while absorbing great musical vibes from multiple genres. \nThe Jazz Foundation of America presents Carol Sudhalter Quintet. \nFlautist and saxophonist Carol Sudhalter didn’t take up music until her third year of college (biology major)\, but hasn’t let up since. She was the first graduate of Smith College to become a professional jazz musician\, and in 1978 moved from Boston to New York City to join the all-women Latin band\, Latin Fever. In 1986 she founded the 13-piece Astoria Big Band\, and later founded several performance initiatives in Queens\, including the Athens Square Park Jazz Mondays series\, Astoria / LIC Waterfront Jazz Festival\, and Sunset Jazz Concerts in Ralph Demarco Park. Sudhalter has worked with many notable artists including Etta Jones\, Jimmy McGriff\, Sarah McLawler\, Henry Butler\, Chico Freeman\, Jimmy Cobb and Jason Marsalis. She currently holds court as the intrepid leader of Flushing Town Hall’s Louis Armstrong Legacy Jam. \nFriends of Bushwick Inlet Park is sponsored\, in part\, by the Greater New York Arts Development Fund of the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs\, administered by Brooklyn Arts Council. \nA big thanks goes out this year’s sponsors & supporters: \n \n\n\n

DESCRIPTION:Please join Friends of Bushwick Inlet Park and our partners from the North Brooklyn Community Boathouse  and the Billion Oyster Project for our next survey of our oyster restoration project in Bushwick Inlet. \nIn Bushwick Inlet lies 4 living docks and 16 Oyster Research Station (ORS) cages. The boat club will retrieve the cages\, we will count and measure the oysters\, see and engage with the other marine life cohabitating with the oysters and learn more about why oysters are so important to the East River ecosystem and why we support them! \nWe will be meeting at the East River waterfront in Bushwick Inlet Park. (Enter at 86 Kent Ave. [soccer field] and walk all the way back to the water.) Wear old clothes and plan to get a little dirty! \nSpaces are limited and registration is required.
