Watch for an email confirming. \nWe will be meeting at the East River waterfront in Bushwick Inlet Park. Enter at 86 Kent Ave. and walk all the way back to the water. Join Friends of Bushwick Inlet Park in the Park community center for a relaxed\, adult-focused program that blends fascinating bird science with an encouraging\, hands-on drawing & watercolor lesson. \n\n\n\nThis class will cover the basics of observing and drawing birds and how to transform sketches into a finished watercolor painting. Through a series of short\, follow-along demonstrations\, skills will be introduced which are useful for sketching from nature\, keeping a nature journal\, or beginning a more in-depth watercolor practice focused on birds. \nScientific illustrator Monica Schroeder will guide you through: \n\nSketching birds in multiple positions\nA brief\, artist-friendly overview of bird anatomy\nWatercolor fundamentals and brush techniques\nUsing color (instead of black) to create light and shadow\nThe “mother color” technique for a more natural\, cohesive look\n\nAfter the guided lesson\, there will be time to work on your own individual project with personalized support. \nAdults and teens (accompanied by an adult) are welcome. \nAll materials are provided\, though participants are welcome to bring their own supplies if preferred. \nMaterials include: \n\nWatercolor paints\, palettes\, and brushes\nWatercolor and/or mixed-media paper\nDrawing tools\n\nSome printed reference materials will be provided or bring your own pictures to paint if desired. DESCRIPTION:​FBIP in partnership with Cornell GSAPP students. \nAttendees will learn about the properties of building biodegradable planters by growing mycelium in forms through a slide presentation and handouts. Then participants will engage in a hands-on workshop to build a small planter which they will take home and tend and watch the process of the mycelium growth first hand. \nPart I\nSaturday\, February 7\n1:00 PM – 3:00 PM\n86 Kent Ave\nKings County\, New York\n*Required registration (free) \n​In the first session\, participants will be introduced to the powerful world of mycelium and collaborate to fabricate biodegradable planters using organic waste and living fungi. Expect experimentation\, conversation\, and a tactile encounter with growth in real time. \n​The second session (April 4\, 2026) brings these forms to life. Participants will plant native species\, grounding material play in ecological stewardship and local restoration efforts at Bushwick Inlet Park. \n​No prior experience needed—just curiosity and a willingness to learn together. All backgrounds are welcome\, and we strongly encourage joining both sessions on February 7 and April 4 to experience the full lifecycle of the work. \n​This event is facilitated by Luca Marcelli and Valeria Ramirez\, organized in collaboration with Friends of Bushwick Inlet Park and BIOPOD Co.

DESCRIPTION:Bushwick Inlet Park Cleanup and Invasive Species Removal\nJoin Friends of Bushwick Inlet Park and Riverkeeper for a stewardship project at Bushwick Inlet Park from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm for the 15th Annual Riverkeeper Sweep. This is a rain or shine event. \nSign up required. \nVolunteers will meet at Bushwick Inlet Park\, 86 Kent Avenue\, Brooklyn\, NY\, 11249\, specifically at N 9th Street\, down by the water on the other side of the soccer field. \nWe recommend all Sweep volunteers to bring a hat\, sunscreen\, a full reusable water bottle\, insect repellent\, work gloves and hand sanitizer. \nThis site is suitable for elementary-aged children with adult supervision. \nQuestions?
