SUMMARY:Biology/Art Instruction: Oyster\, Watercolor Triptych
DESCRIPTION:Oysters played a big role in the history and ecology of New York City including Bushwick Inlet and its environs. We almost lost our oyster population\, but they are now making a major comeback and helping to clean up our waterways. \nScientific illustrator Monica Schroeder will guide us through a talk about this subject and and then follow this up with a hands on intro watercolor painting session.  \nWe’ll start with a 30 minute slide show about these fascinating bivalve mollusks\, and then follow that up with a 30 minute intro to watercolors: materials\, mark-making practice\, basics of color theory and color mixing exercises. Then you’ll have 2 hours to paint your own creation. \nNo painting experience required. \nAll materials are supplied as well as light refreshments. \nRegistration required. \n* Please register only if you plan to actually attend. The class size is small to ensure an intimate hands on learning experience. \nChildren 14 and over (high school students) are welcome but must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times.
