DESCRIPTION:Come clean your River! We welcome you to take part in the 12th Annual Riverkeeper Sweep\, our annual day of service for the Hudson River and its tributaries. \nJoin Friends of Bushwick Inlet Park and Riverkeeper for a park clean-up at Bushwick Inlet Park \nVolunteers will meet at Bushwick Inlet Park\, 86 Kent Ave\, Brooklyn NY\, at the Bushwick Inlet Park Building. There is street parking but it is easier to arrive by bike\, public transit or ferry! \nRegistration is required. \nWe ask all Sweep volunteers to wear sturdy shoes or boots\, clothing that they can get dirty\, and to bring a hat\, sunscreen\, a full reusable water bottle\, and a face mask\, work gloves and hand sanitizer. \nThis site is not suitable for elementary-aged children. \nQuestions? Contact Riverkeeper at sweep@riverkeeper.org or Katherine Thompson at bushwickinletpark@gmail.com. \n*IMPORTANT! To ensure the safety of volunteers\, Sweep Site Leaders\, park staff\, and our communities\, we ask that volunteers adhere to the following guidelines: \n\nVolunteers are required to pre-register for Sweep\, and bring their own masks\, gloves\, hand sanitizer\, and water.\nVolunteers should not participate if they have ANY signs of illness or if they have potentially been exposed to COVID-19 within the previous two weeks.

SUMMARY:Bushwick Inlet Story: Accordion Bookmaking and Collage Class
DESCRIPTION:Please join us for an afternoon of book making utilizing collage\, writing or drawing. \nHear a short history about Bushwick Inlet\, once Bushwick Creek\, along the East River\, nowpart of Bushwick Inlet Park\, on the border of Greenpoint and Williamsburg\, Brooklyn. \nWe’ll start with a 20 minute slide show exploring some of its past\, including its connection to McCarren Park\, environmental changes\, its role in the Civil War\, and modern-day political battles and the environmental challenges ahead for our vulnerable waterfront. \nThen enjoy a guided art session on making a mini 8-page accordion book with an antique paper collage cover and filling it with your own story. Antique books to use for collage\, colored pencils and watercolors to decorate and fill your book are provided. Ideas on how to fill your book could include journaling\, poetry\, a short story\, illustration\, drawing\, collage or anything else you might imagine or want to incorporate into your design. \nFriends of Bushwick Inlet Park will provide art supplies\, but feel free to bring your own (if you have!) for this guided art project for beginners and artists of all levels. Materials provided will include include paper\, cardboard book cover\, antique books to use for collage\, watercolors\, colored pencils\, glue\, and other art materials. \nIf you’d like to bring your own\, we recommend: \n\nA piece of drawing\, multimedia\, or watercolor paper (at least 16″ long)\,\nA piece of cardboard to cut two book covers from. Delivery box\, food box\, anything stiff. At least 2″ x 4″ or larger.\nDecorative paper for the covers Old book pages\, magazine pages\, wrapping paper.\nA ruler\nScissors\, exacto\, or cutter – any tool that will cut your cardboard\nPencil\nPaper glue\, glue stick\, or white crafting glue\nPaints\, colored pencils\, markers\, or pens.\nOld book pages\, magazine pages\, wrapping paper.\n\nNo experience necessary. \nTaught by Monica Schroeder\, scientific illustrator & kayaker. monbertkayak@gmail.com \nRegistration required. \n* Please register only if you plan to actually attend. (From Brooklyn Buzz:) Gerry Eastman is a prominent musician of the New York scene and is known for his work as a guitarist\, composer\, producer\, bassist\, arranger\, conductor\, and bandleader.
