Named after the Sylvia Rexach song “Alma Adentro” or “Inside of your soul” in English\, this group of musicians seeks to touch our hearts through music with Yazmín Morales-Vicente (vocals)\, William Vázquez (guitar)\, Luis Rodríguez (Cuatro) and Elías De Jesús (percussion). As life is starting to look much brighter come take in a skyline river sunset on the shoreline esplanade while absorbing great musical vibes. \nNext up in partnership with the Jazz Foundation of America we welcome the George Braith Quartet. \nGeorge Braith (born George Timothy Braithwaite on June 26\, 1939) is a soul-jazz saxophonist from New York. Braith is known for playing multiple horns at once\, a technique pioneered by Roland Kirk. Braith is credited with the invention of the Braithophone\, two different horns (straight alto and soprano) mended together by extensions\, valves and connections.Braith is featured in a mosaic in the 72nd street station of the Second Avenue Subway in the New York City Subway system. \nA big thanks goes out to NYC Ferry for their support of this series. SUMMARY:City of Water Day 2021 - Shoreline Marine Life Discovery Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Celebrate City of Water Day with Friends of Bushwick Inlet Park! Marine biologists from the Coastal Classroom will lead the community in workshops to discover and explore marine life at low tide on the Bushwick Inlet Park jetty. \nActivities will include a seining demonstration and organism identification\, marine food chains discussions\, water quality testing and talk about the human impacts to aquatic ecosystems in NYC. \nThe biologists will seine the shoreline for marine life. Participants 16 and older can assist them but must sign a waiver. \nFor participants not fully vaccinated a face covering is required. \nPlease join us! DESCRIPTION:Let’s celebrate being outdoors with an afternoon of in-person onsite sketching at Bushwick Inlet Park! \nWe will discuss the basics of a travel art supply kit\, framing & composition\, simplifying\, creating symbols\, using color\, and more. After a 15 minute lesson\, we’ll move to different spots within the park and draw thumbnail sketches before settling on a longer and larger sketch. \nThe workshop will be led by art instructor and scientific illustrator Monica Schroeder. \nFree. As life is starting to look much brighter come take in a skyline river sunset on the shoreline esplanade while absorbing great musical vibes. \nFirst up in partnership with the Jazz Foundation of America we welcome the Craig Holiday Haynes Quartet. \nAcclaimed drummer Craig Holiday Haynes\, the son of legendary drummer and three-time Grammy Award winner Roy Haynes\, brings his craft to Brooklyn. Named after Billie Holiday\, he started playing tenor sax at age 14 in and around NYC with a group called the Fabulous Uniques. Craig later studied African percussion with Chief Bey and seriously switched over to a drum set around his 20th birthday. He’s toured with R&B/ Disco artist “Gary Toms Empire”\, Sun Ra (with whom he’s also recorded) and has since played an assortment of great jazz\, blues\, R&B\, and most recently gospel with folks such as Barry Harris\, Clifford Jordan\, Freddie Hubbard\, Gloria Lynne\, Lionel Hampton\, Tony Bennett\, The Boys Choir of Harlem\, The Allman Brothers Band\, Leslie West\, Geri Allen\, Marcus Miller\, Gladys Knight\, Eddie Palmeri\, actor Danny Glover (to name a few) and many\, many others! \nA big thanks goes out to NYC Ferry for their support of this series. DESCRIPTION:As a follow-up to his FBIP webinar\, mycology educator Luke Sarrantonio (web – IG) will lead us through a hands-on workshop to discuss and demonstrate fungi’s role as decomposers.   Learn how to introduce mushroom mycelium (basically roots of the mushroom) and their many benefits in a garden. The fungus can break down wood chips to release nutrients for plants and produce mushrooms for years to come instead of adding other fertilizers.  Fungi are key players in the cycle of life\, why not work with them? \nMeet by the gardens just beyond the soccer field. \nIn the event of inclement weather\, we will be under the canopy atop of the park building green roof. \nFree registration required.

DESCRIPTION:Join the Friends of Bushwick Inlet Park and Riverkeeper for a cleanup and planting event at Bushwick Inlet Park on Saturday\, May 1\, 2021 for the 10th Annual Riverkeeper Sweep\, a day of service for the Hudson River and its tributaries (and New York Harbor). \nVolunteers will meet at Bushwick Inlet Park\, 86 Kent Ave\, Brooklyn down by the water. We ask all Sweep volunteers to wear sturdy shoes or boots\, clothing that they can get dirty\, and to bring a hat\, sunscreen\, a full reusable water bottle\, and a face mask\, work gloves\, and hand sanitizer. This site is suitable for elementary-aged children with proper adult supervision. \nRegistration required. \n*IMPORTANT! To ensure the safety of volunteers\, Sweep Site Leaders\, park staff\, and our communities\, we ask that volunteers adhere to the following guidelines: \n\nVolunteers are required to pre-register for Sweep\, and bring their own masks\, gloves\, hand sanitizer\, and water.\nAll participants and Sweep Leaders must wear masks that fully cover both their nose and mouth\, at all times\, no exceptions.\nAll volunteers must maintain a minimum distance of 6 feet and wear masks at all times.\nWhen announcements are being made\, a distance of 15 feet should be maintained.\nVolunteers should carpool only with members of their own household.\nVolunteers should not participate if they have ANY signs of illness or if they have potentially been exposed to COVID-19 within the previous two weeks.\n\nQuestions? Marine biologists from the Coastal Classroom will lead the community in workshops to discover and explore marine life at low tide on the Bushwick Inlet Park jetty. Participants will be learning about the ecosystems and wildlife living along the shoreline of the East River\, resiliency\, and restoration of original habitat. \nThe biologists will seine the shoreline for marine life. Participants 16 and older can assist them but must sign a waiver. \nWe will be practicing strict social distancing. DESCRIPTION:Come garden with us! \nWe are happy to announce that we are prepared to start up volunteer events on a scaled back basis with limited numbers of volunteers. Throughout the seasons we usually have many ways to get involved with BIP but with COVID-19 we have had to curtail our programing. We have been working with the Parks Dept to establish safe re-opening protocols and equipment. \nTo keep us all safe during COVID-19\, this gardening activity is limited to 15 volunteers per the Parks Dept. Please do not bring along extra people without signing them up first. Thanks!!! Masks are required for all participants . \nWe will be weeding\, mulching\, pruning\, cleaning up and watering (if necessary). \nBring water bottle\, gloves (if you have them)\, sunscreen and don’t forget your mask! \nWe will have tools\, bags and gloves. \nFree registration required.*
