A new section of Bushwick Inlet Park has opened at 50 Kent Ave this week! 1.89 acres of passive green space were constructed over the course of a year following funding approval in 2017 and design approval in 2019.  This parcel is bordered by N 11th and N 12th Streets to the south and north, Kent Ave to the east and the CitiStorage slab to the west. Take in spectacular views of the East River, the Manhattan Skyline and the varied historical and evolving Greenpoint and Williamsburg landscape from a grassy hill overlook that flows down into a lush comfortable green lawn. There’s plenty of stone and bench seating throughout. Thousands of plantings are slowly making their way up from the ground as well as many young canopy and understory trees. Over time a multitude of flowering plants, ornamental grasses and shrubs will display vibrant color and textures that will support pollinators, birds and create shade. And in the coming months as the season warm up look for a spray fountain for kids to immerse themselves in and cool off. We tip our park hats to Mayor Bill de Blasio for allocating capital funds to develop this section of BIP, Stantec’s Donna Walcavage and Gentry Locke for creating the design and NYC Parks North Brooklyn Director Mary Salig-Husain and the the Parks team for seeing it all through. Come enjoy your park!
