After a 6-year design and extended construction period Bushwick Inlet and the Motiva section of the park open to the public on April 30th, 2026. This rare and beautiful embayment has been inaccessible to the community for well over a century.

The City purchased this property from Motiva Enterprises in 2014 for around $5 million. In 2017 Mayor Bill de Blasio allocated $9.8 million for its development into 1.9 acres of parkland.

FBIP welcomes this new section of the park which joins the park headquarters building and soccer field at 86 Kent Ave, and the hilly overlook and gardens at 50 Kent Ave to make up around 9 acres of usable parkland in total, almost 21 years after the City committed to its development with the 2005 Waterfront Rezoning. Now, only 18 to go!

The Friends of Bushwick Inlet Park commend the NYC Parks Department for seeing through this project’s design and construction phases over the last six years, and the City of New York for purchasing this property and funding the park’s development there.
