Join Friends of Bushwick Inlet Park on Zoom (again!) for an afternoon of science and art instruction with Monica!

So much inspiration thrives in Bushwick Inlet Park. Nature Journaling focuses on the appreciation of nature while recording observations and impressions. Open to all nature enthusiasts. All you need is paper, a pencil and your curiosity.

Following a 15-minute presentation briefly reviewing the history of and the local flora and fauna of the East River, we will cover commonly used art supplies such as watercolor & color pencils kits for use in the field. We’ll discuss options such as phenology, detail studies, the use of text and common notations, minimal data to include, indexing, and the three basic questions used in the John Muir Laws approach and practice drawing together.

Minimum supplies:

Paper and pencil.

Paint, colored pencil, markers and pens – or any other medium you might have available or wish to explore.

A subject you would like to draw at the ready – plants, vegetables, a piece of fruit are all great options, but any object is fine!

No experience necessary. Part 2 and field trips are planned for later in the spring for those of you who might be able to join in person – please watch for more information.

Taught by Monica Schroeder, scientific illustrator & kayaker.
